Licence exemption application not proceeding - Origin Energy Retail No. 2 Pty Ltd

In 2018, the Commission received an application from Origin Energy Retail No.2 Pty Ltd (Origin) for an exemption from a licence to generate and sell electricity in accordance with section 87 of the Electricity Reform Act.

Origin was seeking to install solar photovoltaic at two sites owned by Charles Darwin University (CDU). It was proposed the project would include a 1.1 megawatt system at CDU Casuarina and a 325 kilowatt system at CDU Alice Springs, which would be connected to the Darwin-Katherine and Alice Springs systems respectively, but not export electricity to the grid.

The Commission released an Issues Paper seeking feedback from market participants and stakeholders by 17 September 2018. A submission was received from Power Water Corporation, which was published on the Commission’s website.

On 31 July 2019, Origin advised the Commission that this project is not proceeding  and therefore it is no longer necessary to pursue an exemption from licensing under the Electricity Reform Act.
